*ducks from onslaught of movie theatre popcorn*
Yeah, I know. What's wrong with me? How can I not want to see the Precious?
Truthfully, I've been debating this for awhile. I've flip flopped about seeing this more than a fish out of water. I will, I won't, I will, I won't. For sure I'm going. Fuck it I'm not.
Note: Debate's over. I may or may not rent it. I've thought a bit more about why I don't feel like seeing it this instant so I've added my comments in italics in the post.
Here's why I don't want to go:
- I kinda feel like rebelling. Yup, I'm pondering not seeing the movie just 'cause everyone else is. Yup I can be a contrary whore bag.
- I know the ending. Normally this doesn't bother me, and it's not the actual ending that will bother me. I've heard it compared to a sucker punch, and it's been awhile since I've been on the receiving end of one of those. I'm not into cheap shots to the gut, 'nads, or heart strings for that matter.
- I hate this "live for the moment" guilt inducing type stuff. Look, I get it - life is short and can change in an instant. I've got personal experience with unfortunate random life-changing crap that the universe can dump on you - I don't need a movie to remind me that I need to treasure every moment and that I'm so lucky to have family and I certainly don't need reminders of 9/11 to do it. Maybe it's because I had an experience that turned my world upside (at the ripe old age of 8) that I don't appreciate someone pulling that string. I think I probably object just as much to that as much as the 9/11 stuff. I realize that my experience with the shitty aspects of life pales in comparison to those experiences of 9/11 and by no means am I comparing my life those that experienced that awful day. I'm probably going to get flamed for saying this: I think my big objection with using 9/11 is that by using 9/11 seems like the quick and dirty way of making people feel this way. Are people going to walk out of the theatre and REALLY change. Not likely. So then why use it? So why not just have a bridge collaspe with Rob's character on it. Still awful, still tragic, same effect.
- I'm not into movies that are likely to make me cry. Life is exhausting as is, crying about a fictional character only makes it more so.
- This movie screams "Rent me!" and booze it up whilst doing so.
- I'm hearing rumblings that certain scenes are worth seeing on the big screen.
- Apparently Rob's acting is better in this one. Thank fuck.
- Okay, watching some smexier scenes with Rob in it are rather appealing.
- Pierce.
- I feel like if I don't go - I won't be able to participate in the debate.

I can't help you whore...haven't seen it either, for all the reasons you stated above. Now I know we were meant to ride a plane together in FOOORKS!
It's just a movie...see or don't. I thought it was really good...if you are in the mood for a good cry.
It if it's any help either way...it wasn't nearly as sad as I anticipated. Would be a great rental too ;)
I hate "going" to the movies. There is something sacred about watching a movie in the comfort of your own home, without the interruption of 40 teeny boppers.
J
I think I'd feel the same way about not seeing it at the theater if I knew the ending. Luckily, I didn't know so it was worth it.
One reason to see it at the theater and the best reason......GIANT ROB! He has never looked better on screen than in this movie.
A sucker punch is an understatement.
The upside of waiting until it comes out on DVD is you don't have to worry about hiding the flask in the comfort of your own home...
@Mrs. P - of course we were meant to fly to FORKS! together how else are were we going to make out?
@anon - I realize it's just a movie.
@Twired Jen - There is something about going to the movies that I'm not fond of either. I'm not a crowds person and I usually insist on sitting in the aisle seat.
@JJ - I think your post may have sealed the deal. I'll see it but I'll rent it and watch it drunk. Maybe. Sounds way more appealing.
@mmMoxie - mmmmmmmm giant Rob. It does sound appealing but I think I'll just wait and see Eclipse several times!
Sounds like you've been convinced not to see it, so I'm just adding my support to that decision. I don't think there's anything in this movie that necessitates seeing it on the big screen.
And I will see you in FOOOOORRRKSSSSS!!! Maybe you and Mrs P could watch RM during the flight?
I'd have to call it a 'rent only' flick. Not a big screen flick. I was really pissed about the ending at first, but am less so now. In the end, I just don't think it's that good a film. BUT, there are about 30 seconds of RPattz back footage that totally make it worth watching, if you catch my drift.
Dude, my word verification word is totally "forkin."
FORKIN.
So good I can't even comment.
@Musing Bella - Yay! Someone else going to forks!! I suspect MrsP and I will be talking non-stop during the flight!
@Myg- I've really not been pissed about it, in part because truly I wasn't more affected by 9/11 than the average smuck, but I really don't think this is my kind of movie. I'll rent it and watch the smexy scenes over and over again. At least we know that they can't pull that kind of a move in Bel Ami.
I couldn't agree more with your decision! The only difference is that I never questioned if I'd see it in the theater. I knew I wouldn't. For me, it's just not my thing. I don't like movie romance or anything too serious. There is enough seriousness and drama in real life that I don't need to get it in my entertainment too.
I like a good comedy, action/adventure, or anything with a magical or fantasy spin on it. And with Alice in Wonderland out too, it's no contest as to which I'd rather see.
@StarlitViolets. - Mr CC and I went to see "she's out of my league" cute, formulaic and a good laugh or two. MUCH better thatn seeing RM.
